We are estranged for years o Brother, we have fought over valleys and barren land for these 60 years. Three wars, thousands of lives. But dear brother , can their be any hatred if there is no deep rooted love involved some where.
Dear Brother we need each other today, for survival of a nation of people that lived across Indus and between Ganges, but later Departed.
A brother is always a brother... may be estranged but family.
I write this in a context: I went back home late yesterday, and switched on the news to find the Ex- Director of ISI talking of a overt Military action in NWF Province in Pakistan, and some Indian defence strategy experts giving their views what it meant for India.
Well USA is slowly turning into an ally of India, even though it almost attacked India in 1971, but those were cold war days..
USA has always been an ally of Pakistan since its inception. till today when it has questioned Pakistan's internal geographic sovereignty .
ISI has promised extreme action if any such US Military action takes place in Pakistan.
We should not also forget , General Musharaf is an ex Special forces. He is now cornered, they are trained to gamble with lives. When cornered , i can bet my life's savings that he would retaliate back.
So this the issue in hand.. my proposition is what would India's Stance be.. if a war actually breaks out.. It should be noted Pakistan would not be a roll over as Iraq or Afghanistan was for USA.
Will USA seek logistical help from India, who has fought 3 wars with Pakistan.
Rather another audacious proposition, would India help if Pakistan seeks help.. Come what may, they are our own blood.. 60 years of hostility can not erase 6000 years brother hood, many Indian families still have families in Pakistan.
One think is for Sure USA will not get any logistic help from India, no use of Air bases, or ports. Indian democracy will not allow such dollar diplomacy.
But still its a news that all Indian's should keep a watch on,
Its in initial stages.. but then again it can snow ball any time.

am not so politically informed but this sounds like a dream!!India & Pakistan as allies??am sure that there are so many ppl on either side of the border who would look forward with eager anticipation to that day :)
Well it would not be as simple as it sounds.. it needs a huge price.. and due to only Dire strait circumstances.. its a requiem for a dream

Well, my take is this:
1. India will not provide any Logistic support to USA coz of the geographic proximity to Pakistan.
2. India will not aid brother of our blood coz our democracy does need a bit of Dollar support.
So in all probabilities India will draft a treaty with USA that would have clause of non logistical support against war. Actually I am not very proud about our defense strategies and technological progress. This is desite the fact I come from a family that produced two Lt. generals.
Although we went to the non-alliance movement post independence, but when US sent NAVY to India by Nixon, Ms Gandhi had to beg from Russians. Our reactive stance in fighting anything will actually prevail and this seems like the optimal strategy we have.
i Agree with Avi da.. its going to be reactive in nature.. we can react both ways.. either aid Pakistan or USA.. we cant seat silent when the conflict is so close to home..
Its yet another catch 22 situation we would find our selves in
.. We can not give Logistic help to USA.. that will tarnish our repute and will make us Pro-pak in front of USA.. and if we do.. there will be a political and civil Unrest in India
usa does not need logistic support from India.......incase the need arises to attack pakistan. simply bcz it has got its base in both pakistan and afghanistan which it can use.
i would oppose to any attack on pakistan by usa......but no brotherhood feeling or neighbourhood harmony.

its been proven that pakistan has all its nuclear powered missile on alert pointing towards india during the kargil war.
china will have a major role to play in such kind of a situation even more than india. though i agree that on the aftermath of this hypothetical war india will go any far to help rebuild pakistan.
a full fledged war between india and and pakistan (india calling for it) is ruled out. since pakistan has got nuclear power and it can reach any corner of india with its long ranged missiles. also pakistan will never think of going to war with india unless its the last step in their strategy. within no time the whole of pakistan will be reduced to ashes.
even though we (india and usa) talk about being natural allies, we can not ally with usa on many issues.......as long as we are not out of grasp of russia. we certainly do not need to be an usa ally. it will be the second biggest mistake on the part of our policy makers, first being the one when our soldiers showing their braveness on the war front marched upto lahore, only to return. we did not even think of capturing PoK and integrating with J&K, for an undivided kashmir.

aid to pakistan will not change its stance on the kashmir issue (incase you are thinking on that line).
and i agree with you that india will keep silence in such a situation, but i disagree that we will do so bcz we need a bit of dollar support. rather its the best available policy option for us. we can not afford to go back from our stance that terrorism is state sponsered in pakistan and it needs to be eliminated, for it is the biggest threat to us.
